Manufacturer description
BR Class 40 ‘Whistler’

The British Rail Class 40 is a much-utilized British railway diesel-electric locomotive, that took over duties at the end of the steam era. A total of 200 were built by English Electric between 1958 and 1962. They were numbered D200-D399. They were for a time the pride of the British Rail early diesel fleet. Despite their initial success, by the time the last examples were entering service, they were already being replaced on some top-link duties by more powerful locomotives. As they were slowly relegated from express passenger uses, the type found work on secondary passenger and freight services where they worked for many years. The final locomotives ended regular service in 1985.

We have been working closely with the Class 40 Preservation Society to bring you the most up-to-date and accurate model of the Whistler that is possible. Thanks to their efforts and co-operation throughout this project, we have the preserved 40106, 40135 and 40145 available in the arsenal of incredible diesel electric locomotives.

KR Models Class 40 40032 Regional Railways Diesel Locomotive is a 00‑scale model of a British Rail Class 40 diesel‑electric locomotive. The model includes interior lighting and carries the manufacturer part number KRM‑40‑OO‑R‑032RR. It represents the locomotive as it appeared during the British Rail sectorisation period.

The full‑size Class 40, built by English Electric between 1958 and 1962, comprised 200 units numbered D200 to D399. Introduced at the end of the steam era, the locomotives were initially the flagship of British Rail’s early diesel fleet. By the late 1960s they were superseded on top‑link duties by more powerful types, but continued to operate on secondary passenger and freight services until the last examples were withdrawn in 1985.

The model features etched grills, a cab light, a cast chassis and a high level of fine detail. Interior lighting is provided and the overall finish aims to replicate the appearance of the preserved examples.

KR Models worked closely with the Class 40 Preservation Society to produce an accurate representation of the “Whistler”. The model is available in the liveries of preserved locomotives 40106, 40135 and 40145, offering collectors several historically correct options.
