The British Rail Class 40 is a much-utilized British railway diesel-electric locomotive, that took over duties at the end of the steam era. A total of 200 were built by English Electric between 1958 and 1962. They were numbered D200-D399. They were for a time the pride of the British Rail early diesel fleet. Despite their initial success, by the time the last examples were entering service, they were already being replaced on some top-link duties by more powerful locomotives. As they were slowly relegated from express passenger uses, the type found work on secondary passenger and freight services where they worked for many years. The final locomotives ended regular service in 1985.

KR Models Class 40 40135 Diesel Locomotive – DCC Sound

The KR Models Class 40 40135 is a 4mm scale model of a British Rail Class 40 diesel‑electric locomotive, fitted with DCC sound capability and interior lighting. It carries the manufacturer part number KRM-40-OO-S-135 and represents the British Railways Late Crest period.

The original Class 40, built by English Electric between 1958 and 1962, was a widely used diesel locomotive that replaced many steam services. A total of 200 units were constructed, numbered D200 to D399, and they remained in regular service until 1985, later moving to secondary passenger and freight duties.

Modelling details include etched grills, a cab light, a cast chassis, fine surface detail, and a LokSound V5.0 system with dual speakers and a cold‑start sound function. The model is equipped with interior lighting to enhance realism.

The development of the model was undertaken in collaboration with the Class 40 Preservation Society, ensuring an up‑to‑date and accurate representation of the preserved locomotives 40106, 40135 and 40145, which are now part of the KR Models diesel‑electric locomotive range.
