The British Rail Class 40 is a much-utilized British railway diesel-electric locomotive, that took over duties at the end of the steam era. A total of 200 were built by English Electric between 1958 and 1962. They were numbered D200-D399. They were for a time the pride of the British Rail early diesel fleet. Despite their initial success, by the time the last examples were entering service, they were already being replaced on some top-link duties by more powerful locomotives. As they were slowly relegated from express passenger uses, the type found work on secondary passenger and freight services where they worked for many years. The final locomotives ended regular service in 1985.

KR Models Class 40 40106 BR Green Diesel Locomotive – DCC Sound is a ready‑to‑run model of a British Railways late‑crest diesel‑electric locomotive. It operates with DCC Sound, includes interior lighting, and carries the manufacturer part number KRM‑40‑OO‑S‑106.

The prototype, British Rail Class 40 ‘Whistler’, was built by English Electric between 1958 and 1962, with a total of 200 units numbered D200 to D399. The class entered service as steam traction was withdrawn, later being superseded on top‑link duties and eventually relegated to secondary passenger and freight work until the final examples were withdrawn on 31 December 1985.

The model features etched grills, a cab light, a cast chassis and fine detailing. It is fitted with LokSound V5.0, dual speakers and a cold‑start sound function to replicate the original locomotive’s audio characteristics.

KR Models worked closely with the Class 40 Preservation Society to ensure accuracy. The model represents preserved locomotives 40106, 40135 and 40145, which are now part of the society’s collection of diesel‑electric locomotives.
