Manufacturer description

The British Rail Class 40 is a much-utilized British railway diesel-electric locomotive, that took over duties at the end of the steam era. A total of 200 were built by English Electric between 1958 and 1962. They were numbered D200-D399. They were for a time the pride of the British Rail early diesel fleet. Despite their initial success, by the time the last examples were entering service, they were already being replaced on some top-link duties by more powerful locomotives. As they were slowly relegated from express passenger uses, the type found work on secondary passenger and freight services where they worked for many years. The final locomotives ended regular service in 1985.

KR Models Class 40 40135 Diesel Locomotive is a scale model of a British Railways Class 40 diesel‑electric locomotive, representing the late‑crest period of British Rail. The model carries interior lighting and is supplied with the manufacturer part number KRM-40-OO-R-135.

The real Class 40, commonly known as “Whistler”, was built by English Electric between 1958 and 1962, with a total of 200 units (numbers D200 to D399). Initially prominent in the early BR diesel fleet, the class was gradually superseded on top‑link duties and later served on secondary passenger and freight work until the final regular withdrawals in 1985.

Features of the model include etched grills, a cab light, a cast chassis and fine detailing intended to reflect the appearance of preserved examples such as 40106, 40135 and 40145. KR Models worked closely with the Class 40 Preservation Society to ensure the design is up‑to‑date and accurate.
