The British Rail Class 40 is a much-utilized British railway diesel-electric locomotive, that took over duties at the end of the steam era. A total of 200 were built by English Electric between 1958 and 1962. They were numbered D200-D399. They were for a time the pride of the British Rail early diesel fleet. Despite their initial success, by the time the last examples were entering service, they were already being replaced on some top-link duties by more powerful locomotives. As they were slowly relegated from express passenger uses, the type found work on secondary passenger and freight services where they worked for many years. The final locomotives ended regular service in 1985.

Thanks to their efforts and co-operation throughout this project, we have the preserved 40106, 40135 and 40145 available in the arsenal of incredible diesel electric locomotives.

KR Models Class 40 40145 is a 4‑mm scale model of a British Rail Class 40 diesel‑electric locomotive in the classic British Rail “Blue” TOPS livery. The model carries the manufacturer part number KRM‑40‑OO‑S‑145 and features DCC Sound operation with interior lighting.

The locomotive is equipped with etched grills, a cab light, a cast chassis and fine detailing. Sound is provided by LokSound V5.0 with dual speakers and includes a cold‑start function. The model represents locomotive 40145 and is part of a range that also includes 40106 and 40135, produced in consultation with the Class 40 Preservation Society.

The real Class 40 fleet comprised 200 units built by English Electric between 1958 and 1962, numbered D200‑D399. Initially the flagship of British Rail’s early diesel programme, the class was later superseded on top‑link duties and reassigned to secondary passenger and freight work, remaining in regular service until 1985.
