Heljan Class 33 (BR blue) OO gauge model – running number 33 052, name “Ashford”. The locomotive is presented in a pristine BR blue livery and reproduces the British Rail Class 33 diesel built by Birmingham RCW between 1960 and 1962. It carries a Bo‑Bo wheel arrangement, all‑wheel power pick‑ups and NEM couplings with tension‑lock. The model measures 90 mm over the buffers and is able to negotiate a minimum radius of 2 inches.

The locomotive is DCC ready with an 8‑pin socket and features directional LED lighting, marker lights and a fitted headlight. Power is drawn from all wheels and the chassis uses a high‑performance motor/flywheel set up. Additional details include sprung buffers, etched grilles, wire handrails, separate windscreen wipers, cast‑profiled wheels with appropriate colouring and detailed bogie and buffer‑beam components.

Historically the prototype was a diesel‑powered Type 3 introduced in 1960, with a maximum speed of 85 mph and a total production run of 98 units. The model depicts the TOPS era British Rail Blue period.

Heljan announced a new batch of OO gauge Class 33/0 locomotives for release on 1 January 2021. The new batch continues the specification of LED headlights, 8‑pin DCC decoders and the same high‑detail exterior and interior fittings that have made the model a strong seller.
