Manufacturer description

Back in the range for 2022 after a gap of several years, this model depicts the narrow-bodied Class 33s built to work the Tonbridge-Hastings line. Nicknamed ‘Slim Jims’, they worked freight and passenger duties and widened their sphere for operation in later years. Our new version depicts the ‘33/2s’ in as-built condition with original exhaust arrangement. All new models have also been upgraded to LED lights and a 21-pin DCC interface.

The Heljan Class 33/2 D6591 is a model of a British Railways diesel locomotive. It is a representation of the 'Hastings Gauge' Type 3 locomotive built by the Birmingham Railway Carriage & Wagon Co. at Smethwick between 1960 and 1962. A total of 12 of these locomotives were produced.

This model is available in BR green livery with a late crest, and is DCC-ready with a 21-pin socket. The minimum radius curve recommended for operation is 2, and power pickup is achieved through all wheels. The model features NEM couplings and tension lock couplings.

The Class 33/2 was nicknamed the 'Slim Jim' due to its narrow body, and worked on mixed traffic duties in the Southern region. The model depicts the locomotive in its as-built condition with an original exhaust arrangement. It also features LED lights and upgraded interior details.

Key features of the model include a 21-pin DCC interface, working lights, and sprung buffers. The locomotive is 200mm in length and is a representation of the Class 33/2 built by the Birmingham Railway Carriage & Wagon Co. in the early 1960s.
