Manufacturer description

Back in the range for 2022 after a gap of several years, this model depicts the narrow-bodied Class 33s built to work the Tonbridge-Hastings line. Nicknamed ‘Slim Jims’, they worked freight and passenger duties and widened their sphere for operation in later years. Our new version depicts the ‘33/2s’ in as-built condition with original exhaust arrangement. All new models have also been upgraded to LED lights and a 21-pin DCC interface.

The Heljan Class 33/2 D6590 model is a British Rail diesel locomotive, representing the BRCW 'Hastings Gauge' Type 3 locomotives built in the early 1960s. The model is based on the twelve locomotives of this class built by the Birmingham Railway Carriage & Wagon Co. at Smethwick.

The locomotives were used for mixed traffic duties on the Southern region, working both freight and passenger services. They were nicknamed 'Slim Jims' due to their narrow body design. This model is available in BR blue livery with full yellow ends, a specific characteristic of the Hastings Gauge locomotives.

The model features a 21-pin DCC interface, LED lights, and NEM couplings. It also includes sprung buffers and exterior and interior details. The model is designed for use on curves of a minimum radius of 2, and power pickup is provided from all wheels.

The Class 33/2 locomotives were built between 1960 and 1962, and this model represents them in their original as-built condition with the original exhaust arrangement.
