The Heljan model replicates the LMS/BR Beyer–Garratt locomotive numbered 47993 in British Railways black with the early crest. It is an OO gauge, weathered finish model measuring 350 mm in length and equipped with a 2‑6‑0 wheel arrangement on the driving wheels only. The locomotive is presented with a revolving coal bunker and carries the British Railways early emblem.

Technical details include an 8‑pin DCC socket, NEM couplings, sprung buffers and directional lighting. Power is taken from the driving wheels and the model uses NEM couplings for compatibility with other OO scale equipment. The minimum curve it can negotiate is a 2nd radius of 438 mm.

The prototype was built by Beyer, Peacock & Co. Gorton Works between 1927 and 1930, with a total of six produced for the London, Midland & Scottish Railway. They were employed on heavy mineral and ironstone trains, notably on coal drags between the East Midlands and London, and remained in service until replacement by BR Standard ‘9F’ locomotives in the late 1950s. The model represents the early British Railways crest period.
