The Heljan model replicates the London, Midland & Scottish Railway Beyer‑Garratt 2‑6‑0 locomotive numbered 47988, presented in British Railways black livery with the early crest. It is built to OO gauge, measures 350 mm in length and runs on a 2‑second radius curve (438 mm). The model is DCC ready with an 8‑pin socket, uses NEM couplings, and has power pickup from the driving wheels only. The finish is described as pristine, with lightly weathered detailing to the revolving coal bunker and exterior cab.

The prototype was constructed by Beyer, Peacock & Co. at Gorton Works between 1927 and 1930, with a total production of six for the LMS/BR London Midland Region. Designed to replace pairs of Midland 0‑6‑0s, the Garratt handled heavy mineral trains, particularly coal drags from the East Midlands to London, and also operated on ironstone traffic to destinations such as York and Peterborough until the late 1950s when it was superseded by BR Standard 9F 2‑10‑0 locomotives.

This model was supplied by Hatton’s Model Railways and carries the manufacturer part number 266219. It includes features such as sprung buffers, detailed interior cab fittings and exterior detailing, making it suitable for collectors and railway modelers seeking an accurate representation of the early‑crest British Railways Garratt.
