Ellis Clark Trains has released a new OO gauge model, the Quad Art Set No. 72A, representing British Railways' early crest period. This set consists of four coaches, with running numbers E86376E, E86377E, E86378, and E86379.
The model features finely detailed bogies, including wheel, brake rigging, and underframe details, as well as brass bearings and separate bogie variations for centre and end bogies. The centre bogie is sprung, allowing the coaches to run prototypically close together. Electrical pickups are included for lighting.
The chassis is fully detailed, with accurate and detailed paint and printing, as well as separately fitted vacuum and battery box details. The EM/P4 on axle is accurate to the prototype. Spare brake sets are also included.
The bodies of the coaches are highly detailed, with separate door grab rails, lit destination boards on brake ends, and fully "low glow" interior lighting with hidden circuit boards. The interior is fully detailed, with etched luggage racks and correct height seats. The roofs are also highly detailed, with separately fitted vents and magnetic and push-fit roofs.
The Quad Arts were a class of articulated coaches built between 1923 and 1925 for the Great Northern Railway, London and North Eastern Railway, and other contractors. A total of 97 sets were produced. The Quads were a favourite on the suburban lines, often running in sets of eight, and were used until their retirement in April 1966. They were known for their high speed and were hauled by a variety of locomotives, including A4s and Class 31s.
