OO Gauge Quad Art Set No. 74, LNER Teak
The Ellis Clark Trains Quad Art Set No. 90A is an OO gauge model representing the British Railways Early Crest period. This model features a four-coach pack with a teak finish, which was one of the distinctive liveries carried by the Quad Arts during their long service life.
The model includes finely detailed bogies with separate variations for centre and end bogies, allowing for prototypical running characteristics on curves. The chassis is fully detailed, with accurate and detailed paint and printing. The model also features sprung buffers on the brake end coach and separately fitted vacuum and battery box details.
The body of the model is highly detailed, with separate door grab rails, accurate interior fittings, and correct height seats. The roofs feature separately fitted vents and magnetic and push-fit roofs for easy access. The model also includes magnetic switched lighting in each carriage.
The Quad Arts were a type of articulated coach built between 1923 and 1925 for the London and North Eastern Railway (LNER). A total of 97 sets were produced, with the first 45 built by the GNR, 23 by the LNER, and 29 by outside contractors. The coaches were widely used on suburban lines and were often hauled by a variety of locomotives, including the A4 and BR Class 20.
The Quad Arts were a successful and iconic part of the UK's rail network, with some sets reaching speeds of up to 90 mph. They carried three distinctive liveries during their service life: varnished teak, BR Crimson, and BR Maroon. The last Quad Art set was withdrawn from service in April 1966.
