Manufacturer description

Locomotive Background Information

The series of models being manufactured by Dapol are to the later Churchward build from numbers 5390 through to 7321, constructed between 1920 and 1923 with the final eight (6362-6369) in 1925 under Collett. These Collett locomotives had outside cylinder steam pipes fitted from new, whilst this feature was added to the majority of the earlier batch from the late 1940s to the early 1950s. The last to be withdrawn was 6395 on 21-11-1964.

General Specification

Many original GA drawings were used in the development of these accurate and authentic models. The locomotive has a diecast chassis with a five pole motor driving the rear wheels. To add compensation the centre driving wheels are sprung, the front pony truck is also sprung and operates on a cam so the model will negotiate R2 curves with ease.

To portray these locomotives over their lifetime many details have been drawn up as follows:-

The Dapol GWR 43xx 2-6-0 Mogul locomotive model is a new addition to the company's OO gauge range. The model is based on the real-life 43xx class of locomotives built by the Great Western Railway between 1911 and 1932. The class was designed by George Churchward and was known for its ability to handle a wide range of traffic, from local goods to main line expresses.

The model features a number of improvements over its predecessor, including a 30:1 gear ratio for slow speed running and accurate top speed, improved slide bars and crosshead, and a more detailed firebox glow. The locomotive has a die-cast compensated chassis, a new cab with a higher and shorter roof, and porthole cab windows above the firebox. The model also features a detailed cab interior, a full profile cylinder, and a new motion bracket and boiler support.

The model is DCC ready and features a slide in PCB that offers simple installation of a NEXT-18 DCC decoder and a no-solder speaker connection. The tender to locomotive drawbar includes reliable electrical connections moulded within the close-coupling push-fit coupling. The model also features 12 wheels with electrical pick-up, a sprung centre driving wheel, and a sugar cube mountable on the slide out PCB board.

The model is expected to be available in shops in Q1-Q2 2022.
