Prototype Era
Era 3 (1923 to 1947) The Big Four (LNER, LMS, GWR and SR)
20 ton mineral wagons of a steel riveted construction were used nationally, transporting coal and minerals offering a more efficient and cost effective method of conveyance than had previously been possible with wooden bodied 10 and 12 ton open top wagons.
They came into service in the 1920s and were finally withdrawn in the 1970s. The wagons had two doors per side and an end door.

Unpainted 16 Ton Steel Mineral Wagon Body
The Dapol 20T Steel Mineral Cilely model is a OO gauge representation of a 20 ton steel mineral wagon. It features a steel riveted construction with two doors per side and an end door, typical of the wagons used nationwide during the Big Four period, which spanned the years of the LNER, LMS, GWR, and SR.
These wagons were introduced in the 1920s and were phased out in the 1970s, offering a more efficient and cost-effective means of transporting coal and minerals compared to the wooden bodied 10 and 12 ton open top wagons previously in use.
The model itself is highly detailed, with profiled wheels, superbly printed livery and details, and a complete coal or coking coal load. It also features NEM pockets with self-centring couplings and highly detailed body and chassis moulding. The model measures 97mm in length, 33mm in width, and 36mm in height, with a minimum radius curve requirement of 1.
