Manufacturer description

The BR Class 29 is a type of Bo-Bo diesel-electric locomotive designed for both freight and passenger use. Although outwardly similar to the Class 22, they actually share no mechanical parts and in fact were a modified Class 21 with a replacement Paxman engine with improvements to power output.

These modifications were carried out between 1963 and 1965 mainly at the Polmadie Traction & Rolling Stock Depot in Glasgow. After the rebuild, the locomotives returned to Scottish duties until their withdrawal in 1971. No Class 29 locomotives survive preservation. Dapol have managed to provide for the Class 21 also in the tooling and this will be made concurrently with the Class 29.

The first EP’s have arrived and are currently being evaluated by the design team and a series of corrective measures will be made to each of the models to ensure that they are as true to the prototype as possible.

Dapol Class 21 D6111 model in BR green with small yellow warning panels, gauge OO, DCC sound fitted and pristine finish. It includes directional and interior lighting and all‑wheel power pickup.

The locomotive is represented in British Railways early‑crest livery, class 21, Bo‑Bo wheel arrangement. It is modelled after locomotives built by the North British Locomotive Co. between 1958 and 1960 for British Railways. Minimum radius is 2 in, with NEM/tension‑lock magnetic couplings and traditional screw couplings.

Model details feature etched grilles, separately fitted handrails, finely cast wheels and metal‑sprung buffers. A 5‑pole Super‑creep motor with twin brass flywheels provides controlled pulling power and very slow running speed.
