Manufacturer description
The BR Class 29 is a type of Bo-Bo diesel-electric locomotive designed for both freight and passenger use. Although outwardly similar to the Class 22, they actually share no mechanical parts and in fact were a modified Class 21 with a replacement Paxman engine with improvements to power output.
These modifications were carried out between 1963 and 1965 mainly at the Polmadie Traction & Rolling Stock Depot in Glasgow. After the rebuild, the locomotives returned to Scottish duties until their withdrawal in 1971. No Class 29 locomotives survive preservation. Dapol have managed to provide for the Class 21 also in the tooling and this will be made concurrently with the Class 29.
The first EP’s have arrived and are currently being evaluated by the design team and a series of corrective measures will be made to each of the models to ensure that they are as true to the prototype as possible.

Class 21 D6116 BR Green with small yellow panels Diesel Locomotive
Dapol’s OO gauge model represents the British Rail Class 21 diesel‑electric locomotive, fitted with digital command control. It carries the running number D6121 and is finished in BR Green with the early crest livery, replicating the appearance of locomotives built between 1958 and 1960.
The model measures 206 mm in length, 34 mm in width and 49 mm in height, with a Bo‑Bo wheel arrangement and all‑wheel power pickup. It uses NEM couplings, has a minimum curve radius of 438 mm (second radius), and includes both directional and interior lighting. The locomotive is powered by a 5‑pole super‑creep motor with twin brass flywheels and is capable of running at a maximum speed of 75 mph.
Detailing includes etched grills, finely printed external logos and numbers, separately fitted handrails, cast wheels and metal‑sprung buffers. The kit comes with magnetic and traditional couplings, an accessory bag for optional fitted components and a Soundtraxx STX882106 diesel sound decoder (speaker required). Early engineering prototypes have been received and are currently undergoing evaluation to ensure full prototype accuracy.
