The BR Class 29 is a type of Bo-Bo diesel-electric locomotive designed for both freight and passenger use. Although outwardly similar to the Class 22, they actually share no mechanical parts and in fact were a modified Class 21 with a replacement Paxman engine with improvements to power output.
These modifications were carried out between 1963 and 1965 mainly at the Polmadie Traction & Rolling Stock Depot in Glasgow. After the rebuild, the locomotives returned to Scottish duties until their withdrawal in 1971. No Class 29 locomotives survive preservation. Dapol have managed to provide for the Class 21 also in the tooling and this will be made concurrently with the Class 29.
The first EP’s have arrived and are currently being evaluated by the design team and a series of corrective measures will be made to each of the models to ensure that they are as true to the prototype as possible.

Class 21 D6116 BR Green with small yellow panels Diesel Locomotive
Dapol Class 21 D6111 is a OO‑scale model of the British Rail Class 21 diesel‑electric locomotive, finished in a pristine BR green livery with the late crest and small yellow warning panels. The model bears the running number D6111 and reproduces the Bo‑Bo wheel arrangement of the prototype that was built by the North British Locomotive Company between 1958 and 1960, of which 58 were produced. It represents the late‑crest era of British Railways, roughly 1967–1971.
The model measures 206 mm in length, 34 mm in width and 49 mm in height, with a minimum curve radius of 2 units. All wheels are powered and provide power pickup, and the locomotive is fitted with magnetic and traditional NEM/tension‑lock couplings. Directional lighting and interior cab lighting are independent, and the locomotive is DCC ready with a 21‑pin socket, also capable of running on 12 V DC track supply.
Detailing includes etched grilles, separately fitted handrails, finely cast wheels and metal‑sprung buffers. It is driven by a five‑pole Super‑creep motor with twin brass flywheels, delivering controlled pulling power and very slow running speeds. An accessory bag is supplied with optional fitted components.
The model is part of Dapol’s range that also covers the related Class 29, with the first engineering prototypes currently being evaluated by the design team to ensure fidelity to the prototype. The product is shipped with a pristine finish suitable for display or operation on a model railway.
