Manufacturer description

The BR Class 29 is a type of Bo-Bo diesel-electric locomotive designed for both freight and passenger use. Although outwardly similar to the Class 22, they actually share no mechanical parts and in fact were a modified Class 21 with a replacement Paxman engine with improvements to power output.

These modifications were carried out between 1963 and 1965 mainly at the Polmadie Traction & Rolling Stock Depot in Glasgow. After the rebuild, the locomotives returned to Scottish duties until their withdrawal in 1971. No Class 29 locomotives survive preservation. Dapol have managed to provide for the Class 21 also in the tooling and this will be made concurrently with the Class 29.

The first EP’s have arrived and are currently being evaluated by the design team and a series of corrective measures will be made to each of the models to ensure that they are as true to the prototype as possible.

Dapol Class 21 model D6111 is a OO gauge diesel locomotive that is DCC fitted and presented in a pristine finish. The livery is British Rail green with the late crest, and the locomotive is numbered D6111. It includes both directional and interior lighting and measures 206 mm in length, 34 mm in width and 49 mm in height, with a minimum radius of curve 2. Power is taken from all wheels and the model uses NEM/tension‑lock couplings.

The prototype was built by the North British Locomotive Co. between 1958 and 1960, with a total production of 58 units. It represents the British Rail Class 21, operated by British Railways, with a maximum speed of 75 mph and a Bo‑Bo wheel arrangement. The model carries the manufacturer part number 4D‑025‑004D and depicts the late‑crest period.
