Manufacturer description

The BR Class 29 is a type of Bo-Bo diesel-electric locomotive designed for both freight and passenger use. Although outwardly similar to the Class 22, they actually share no mechanical parts and in fact were a modified Class 21 with a replacement Paxman engine with improvements to power output.

These modifications were carried out between 1963 and 1965 mainly at the Polmadie Traction & Rolling Stock Depot in Glasgow. After the rebuild, the locomotives returned to Scottish duties until their withdrawal in 1971. No Class 29 locomotives survive preservation. Dapol have managed to provide for the Class 21 also in the tooling and this will be made concurrently with the Class 29.

The first EP’s have arrived and are currently being evaluated by the design team and a series of corrective measures will be made to each of the models to ensure that they are as true to the prototype as possible.

The Dapol Class 21 D6120 diesel locomotive is a OO gauge model that represents a British Railways Class 21 locomotive in late crest livery. The model is DCC ready and features a 5 pole super creep motor, twin brass flywheels, and all wheel drive and pick up. It has a length of 206mm, a width of 34mm, and a height of 49mm. The model includes etched grilles, directional and cab lighting, and finely printed external logos and numbering.

The model is based on the British Rail Class 21 locomotive, a Bo-Bo diesel-electric locomotive designed for freight and passenger use. The Class 21 was built by the North British Locomotive Co between 1958 and 1960, with a total of 58 units produced. The Class 21 was later modified to become the Class 29, with some locomotives receiving a new Paxman engine and improved power output.

The model is designed for Era 5, which covers the period from 1957 to 1966. It is suitable for use on curves with a minimum radius of 2nd radius (438mm). The model features magnetic couplings and traditional couplings, as well as an accessory bag with optional fitted components.
