Manufacturer description

The first diesel railcar was introduced by the GWR in 1933. The innovation was to prove extremely successful and they continued in operation well into the 1960s when their use was eclipsed by the introduction of the BR first generation DMUs. The railcar’s art deco air smoothed styling has lead to their nickname of `Flying Banana’ although later variants were produced to a more angular style. In all 38 GWR diesel railcars were produced from 1933 to 1942 at three different sites with three surviving into preservation.

The Dapol Streamlined Railcar model is a OO gauge representation of the Great Western Railway's Gloucester Railcar, a diesel-powered railcar introduced in 1933. The model features a finely moulded body with separately applied details, accurately applied livery, sprung buffers, and cast wheels with fine relief and colouring.

The model is designed to represent the railcar in British Railways' early crest era, with a livery of chocolate and cream. It is DCC ready, with a 21-pin socket and directional lighting. The model has a length of 250mm and a width of 34mm, with a height of 49mm. It requires a minimum radius curve of 2.

The model is based on the first generation of diesel railcars, which were introduced by the GWR and later adopted by British Railways. The real-life railcars were known for their art deco styling and were nicknamed the 'Flying Banana'. The model features a 5-pole skewed wound motor for smooth running, and an accessory bag with added detail parts and spares.

The model is designed to be compatible with 12V DC track supply and has all-wheel pickup. It is a highly detailed representation of the Gloucester Railcar, with a finely printed external logo and numbering. The model is a new variant, featuring a new body shell, new glazing, and new interior with a fine representation of the parcel shelving.
