Manufacturer description
Seen as very much the ‘missing link’ in the ‘Powering Britain’ range, the 16 ton mineral wagon is an essential addition to the Accurascale range to tell the story of coal traffic on the railways throughout the 20th century. The archetypal BR 16 ton all-steel non-hoppered mineral wagon proliferated across the United Kingdom’s railway network during the 1950s and 1960s and there was probably not a siding, freight yard or industrial railway system in the country that did not house at least an example or three of these vitally important, yet mundane railway vehicles.

Accurascale has released a new BR 16T Mineral wagon model in a yellow livery, specifically designed to represent the CEGB (Kearsley) version. This model is part of the 'Powering Britain' range, which aims to depict the coal traffic on the railways throughout the years.

The model is a representation of the 16 ton mineral wagon, a type of coal wagon that was built in large numbers for the railways in the UK. These wagons were designed to carry coal and other minerals, and were used extensively throughout the country's railway network.

The Accurascale model is a 00 gauge representation of the 16T Mineral wagon, featuring a die-cast metal chassis and a plastic body. It has a weight of 37g, excluding the coal load, and measures 78mm in length and 34.53mm in width. The model has a wheelbase of 36mm, allowing it to operate on a minimum radius of 371mm.

The model features separately fitted side doors, top doors, and end doors, as well as eroded metal, plastic, and wire detail parts. The wheels are metal, with a 3-hole design and a blackened finish, and are set in blackened brass bearings. The model also features turned metal sprung buffers.

The Accurascale 16T Mineral wagon is a representation of the many different versions of this type of wagon that were built in the UK between 1959 and 1960. The model is designed to be an accurate representation of the real-life wagons, with attention to detail and accuracy.

The 16T Mineral wagon has a long history, dating back to the early 20th century. The first versions of these wagons were built in 1944, with over 6,500 wagons being produced. The wagons were used extensively throughout the UK's railway network, and were an essential part of the country's coal traffic.

In the post-war period, the railways faced a significant challenge in replacing the old wooden-bodied wagons with new steel-bodied ones. The Ideal Stocks Committee recommended the elimination of the old wagons, and by 1956, over 127,000 new wagons had been built to new designs. The 16T Mineral wagon was one of the most common types of wagon built during this period, with over 221,000 being produced between 1951 and 1959.

The Accurascale model is a representation of one of these wagons, and is an essential addition to any model railway layout that features the railways of the UK in the post-war period.
