Seen as very much the ‘missing link’ in the ‘Powering Britain’ range, the 16 ton mineral wagon is an essential addition to the Accurascale range to tell the story of coal traffic on the railways throughout the 20th century. The archetypal BR 16 ton all-steel non-hoppered mineral wagon proliferated across the United Kingdom’s railway network during the 1950s and 1960s and there was probably not a siding, freight yard or industrial railway system in the country that did not house at least an example or three of these vitally important, yet mundane railway vehicles.

Accurascale has released a new model of the British Railways 16T mineral wagon in their 'Powering Britain' range. This model is the first of three in a series and is available in BR Freight Grey livery.
The 16T mineral wagon was a crucial part of the British Railways fleet, introduced in the late 1940s to address a shortage of coal wagons on the UK's railway network. The wagons were built by several companies across the UK, with production taking place from 1944 to 1959.
The model is a triple pack, featuring three wagons with different numbers: B271209, B151811, and B224809. Each wagon has a die-cast metal chassis and plastic body, weighing 37g without the coal load. The model measures 78mm in length, 34.53mm in width, and has a wheelbase of 36mm, allowing it to operate on a minimum radius of 371mm.
The model features separately fitted side doors, top doors, and end doors, as well as metal 3-hole wheels and turned metal sprung buffers. The wagon is equipped with a NEM/Tension lock coupling and has a number of eroded metal, plastic, and wire detail parts, including handrails, grab handles, and brake gear.
The 16T mineral wagon played a significant role in the history of British Railways, with over 221,000 of the wagons being built between 1951 and 1959. The model is a welcome addition to any railway enthusiast's collection, and is a must-have for those looking to recreate a period-accurate coal traffic scene.
The model is part of a larger range of Accurascale models, and is the first in a series of three 16T mineral wagons. The model is suitable for use on 00 gauge track and is compatible with other models in the range.
