Prototype Era
Era 5 (1956 to 1966) British Railways Late Crest
The Adams Radial was designed in 1882 by William Adams, these locomotives were based on the popular 4-4-0 tank engine design but due to the enlarged coal bunker a trailing axle was added for support. 71 of these locomotives were produced between 1882 and 1885 and most of them lasted until their withdrawral which started in 1916. Only one of these locomotives survived into preservation which is number 488 and lives happily on display at the Bluebell Railway.

Adams Radial East Kent With Wagons Anniversary Set
Oxford Adams Radial BR Late 30583 is a 00‑scale model of a steam locomotive from the London & South Western Railway 415 class, represented in the British Railways Late Crest period.
The model is finished in pristine condition with a black livery and the Late Crest. It carries the running number 30583 and is DCC ready via an 8‑pin socket. It can negotiate a minimum radius of the 2nd radius (438 mm). The locomotive is powered by steam in the prototype, with a 5‑pole skew wound motor and geared for slow prototypical operation. Other specifications include sprung buffers, a detailed cab interior, a weighted chassis for extra pulling power, all‑over spray with precision printing, NEM couplings and pickups on all wheels. The chassis length measures 146 mm.
The original Adams Radial was designed by William Adams in 1882. A total of 71 were built between 1882 and 1885, classified as LSWR 415 with a 4‑4‑2T wheel arrangement. Withdrawals began in 1916, and only one example, number 488, survives in preservation at the Bluebell Railway.
Manufacturer part number: OR76AR001. Operator: British Railways. The model accurately represents the locomotive’s appearance and performance characteristics of the late British Railways era.
