Manufacturer description

The EKR opened in 1912 from Shepherdswell to Dover to serve Kent coal fields. No 5 was ex-LSWR No. 488, (later 0488), built in 1886 by Neilson and Co. Made redundant by LSWR in 1916, she was the second of the class to be withdrawn. She was bought by the Government in September 1917 and then worked at Ridham dock near Sittingbourne. The EKR Loco Register records that she was purchased from the Ministry of Munitions Disposal and Liquidation Commission and delivered to Shepherdswell on April 13 1923. She was repainted and probably overhauled at least twice during her time at Shepherdswell, the last time in 1935 when amongst other bits she seems to have received a replacement chimney provided by the SR. Last repaired in 1937. She was last used on 29 May 1943 but was then kept throughout the war. In March 1946 the Southern Railway purchased her and after extensive overhaul she went to Lyme Regis branch. The Bluebell Railway purchased her in July 1961.

Oxford Adams East Kent Railway DCC Sound is a 4‑4‑2T model of the LSWR Class 415 Adams Radial built to represent the period of the Big Four (LNER, LMS, GWR and SR). It carries the East Kent Railway livery, is fitted with DCC sound, and is identified by the manufacturer part number OR76AR005XS.

The prototype, numbered No 5, was originally LSWR No 488, built by Neilson and Co in 1886. After being made redundant in 1916 it was purchased by the Government in September 1917 and worked at Ridham Dock. The locomotive was delivered to Shepherdswell on 13/04/1923, overhauled at least twice (the last overhaul in 1935 included a replacement chimney) and last repaired in 1937. It remained in service until 29/05/1943, was bought by the Southern Railway in March 1946, overhauled again and allocated to the Lyme Regis branch, and was ultimately acquired by the Bluebell Railway in July 1961.

Technical specifications include a smooth‑running 5‑pole motor, pick‑ups on all driving wheels and the rear wheel set, high‑definition colour scheme, separately fitted detail components, motor gearing for scale speed operation, a highly detailed cab interior, NEM couplings and an ESU Loksound V4.0 decoder with speaker and sound chamber.

The model provides fifteen different sound effects: F1 sound on/off, steam whistle, short whistle, coal shovelling, air pump, acceleration and brake timing (including shunting mode and speed), curve squeal on/off, water pump, cylinder blow‑out, conductor’s signal, coupler clank, dumping, automatic brake set/release, rail clank and safety valve.
