Prototype Era
Era 3 (1923 to 1947) The Big Four (LNER, LMS, GWR and SR)
Adams Radial East Kent With Wagons Anniversary Set
The Adams Radial was designed in 1882 by William Adams, these locomotives were based on the popular 4-4-0 tank engine design but due to the enlarged coal bunker a trailing axle was added for support. 71 of these locomotives were produced between 1882 and 1885 and most of them lasted until their withdrawral which started in 1916. Only one of these locomotives survived into preservation which is number 488 and lives happily on display at the Bluebell Railway.
* Class names often change over the lifespan of a locomotive, so this is not necessarily the class name used by the operator in the period modelled.

The real Adams Radial locomotives were designed in 1882 by William Adams. They were based on the popular 4‑4‑0 tank‑engine design but featured an added trailing axle to support an enlarged coal bunker. Seventy‑one examples were built between 1882 and 1885; withdrawals began in 1916. Only one, number 488, has survived into preservation and is displayed on the Bluebell Railway.
