Built by Brush, this locomotive started life as D1757 in September 1964 at Cardiff Canton, and under TOPS became 47163 in 1974. 

It received various modifications between 1976 and 1979 and was reclassified as a 47/4 and renumbered 47610 in April 1984. It was renumbered again in April 1989, when it became a 47/8 and was given the number 47823, before becoming 47787 as part of the EWS fleet and being named ‘Windsor Castle’. Previously, it had carried the names ‘SS Great Britain' and ‘Victim Support’. It became part of the West Coast Railways operation at Carnforth in February 2007.

The real locomotive was built by Brush and entered service as D1757 at Cardiff Canton in September 1964. It became 47163 under TOPS in 1974, was re‑classified as a 47/4 and renumbered 47610 in April 1984, changed to a 47/8 as 47823 in April 1989, and later received the number 47787 when acquired by EWS. It has previously carried the names “SS Great Britain” and “Victim Support”, and joined the West Coast Railways operation at Carnforth in February 2007.
