Heljan LNER Class U1 2-8-0+0-8-2T Beyer‑Garratt (BR early emblem No. 69999) is a 0‑scale model locomotive supplied with DCC Sound. The model is presented in British Railways black livery with the early crest and reproduces the locomotive as built by Beyer, Peacock & Co in 1925. It carries the manufacturer part number 30043 and represents the British Railways early crest period.
The model features a twin‑motor/flywheel drive, working LED lamps, a 21‑pin DCC interface and factory‑fitted speakers. Options include DCC Ready, DCC Sound, coal or oil fire representation, sprung buffers, removable cab roof, NEM couplings and compatibility with a smoke unit. Detailed variations cover changes made to the original locomotive during its 30‑year career, such as altered smokebox, water‑tank breather pipes, coal bunker, handrails, cab and vacuum tanks.
An exclusive limited edition will be packaged with bespoke presentation, depicting No. 2395 in works grey as it appeared at the LNER Stockton & Darlington centenary cavalcade in 1925. The model is currently in tooling, with the first working samples expected in January 2024 and a planned release in early 2025.
Production is a collaborative effort involving the National Railway Museum, the Manchester Museum of Science and Industry’s Beyer Peacock Archive, the Gresley Society and model makers Rails of Sheffield and Locomotion Models, forming part of their Railway Icons collection.
