Heljan LNER Class U1 2‑8‑0+0‑8‑2T Beyer‑Peacock Garratt, BR early emblem No 69999 (coal‑fired) – a 00 scale model of the British Railways steam locomotive.
The model replicates the locomotive built by Beyer, Peacock & Co in 1925, originally numbered 2395 and later BR No 69999. It represents the period of British Railways with the early crest livery, shown in BR black with the early emblem.
Technical specifications include a 2‑8‑0+0‑8‑2 wheel arrangement, twin motor/flywheel drive, 21‑pin DCC interface, DCC‑ready and DCC sound options, factory‑fitted speakers, working LED lamps, sprung buffers, NEM couplings, removable cab roof and compatibility with a smoke unit. Options for coal or oil firing are offered, together with detailed variations such as pipework, cable runs, handrails and vacuum tanks.
The model is produced using original works drawings and photographs, with research supported by the National Railway Museum, the Manchester Museum of Science and Industry’s Beyer Peacock archive and the Gresley Society. Production is limited to an exclusive “Railway Icons” collection, with bespoke packaging and a works‑grey livery representing the locomotive’s appearance at the 1925 LNER Stockton & Darlington Railway centenary cavalcade.
Tooling is currently underway; first working samples are expected in January 2024 and the initial release is planned for early 2025. The manufacturer part number is 3004.
