Heljan LNER Class U1 2-8-0+0-8-2 Beyer‑Garratt locomotive, model number 30003, is a 0‑scale (OO) ready‑to‑run model fitted with DCC sound. The model is presented in the original LNER black livery and represents locomotive No 2395 as built in 1925.
The model replicates the articulated 2‑8‑0+0‑8‑2 wheel arrangement of the prototype and includes details such as twin motor/flywheel drive, working LED lamps, a 21‑pin DCC interface, factory‑fitted speakers and optional DCC sound. It is supplied with sprung buffers, NEM couplings and a removable cab roof, and can be specified as either coal‑ or oil‑fired.
The prototype was the largest and most powerful steam locomotive ever to operate on British rails and served on banking duties at Worsbrough and the Lickey Incline for thirty years. The model depicts the locomotive in its original works‑grey appearance as shown at the LNER Stockton & Darlington Railway centenary cavalcade in 1925.
The model is currently in tooling, with the first working samples expected for review in January 2024 and an initial release planned for early 2025. Production will be limited, and the model is offered as a collectors’ edition with bespoke packaging.
Standard features include twin motor drive, working lamps, DCC ready and DCC sound options, factory‑fitted speakers, coal or oil‑firing variants, extensive period‑accurate detailing, separate pipework and cable runs, and compatibility with smoke units.
