The Heljan model represents a British Rail Class 23 “Baby Deltic” locomotive, number D5906, in British Railways green livery with late crest markings and small yellow panels.
It is built to OO gauge, with a pristine finish and a Bo‑Bo wheel arrangement. The model is DCC ready, featuring an 8‑pin socket and power pickup from all wheels. Coupling is supplied in NEM style with a tension lock.
The prototype locomotive was constructed in 1959 by English Electric at the Vulcan Foundry, with a maximum speed of 75 mph and a minimum curve radius of 438 mm (2nd radius). A total of ten of the original locomotives were produced.
