Manufacturer description

The British Rail Class 73 is a British electro-diesel locomotive. The type is unusual in that it can operate from the Southern Region's 650/750 V DC third-rail or an on-board diesel engine to allow it to operate on non-electrified routes. This makes it very versatile, although the diesel engine produces less power than is available from the third-rail supply so the locomotives are rarely operated outside of the former Southern Region of British Rail.

Following the withdrawal and scrapping of the more powerful Class 74 electro-diesels in 1977, the Class 73 was unique on the British railway network until the introduction of the Class 88 electro-diesels in 2017).

The Dapol Class 73 JB Early Blue Small Yellow Panels & Double Arrow Logo E6031 Diesel Locomotive is a OO gauge model of a Class 73 electro-diesel locomotive in British Rail Early Blue livery. This model features a finely moulded body with etched grills and includes a range of details such as directional lighting and finely printed external logos and numbering.

The model is DCC fitted, allowing for smooth operation and easy control. It has all wheel pick up and drive, ensuring a smooth and reliable performance. The locomotive is equipped with a coreless motor for improved operation and features sprung buffers for a more realistic appearance.

The model meets the specifications of the British Rail Class 73, with a Bo-Bo wheel configuration and a livery of Early Blue with small yellow panels and a double arrow logo. It is supplied with a spares bag containing additional detailing parts, allowing modellers to further enhance the model.

The model's dimensions are 213mm in length, 34mm in width, and 49mm in height. It has a minimum radius curve of 2 and a track supply of 12V DC. The model is a faithful representation of the Class 73 in its Early Blue livery, and is a great addition to any OO gauge model railway layout representing the British Rail network in the pre-TOPS era.
