Manufacturer description

The British Rail Class 73 is a British electro-diesel locomotive. The type is unusual in that it can operate from the Southern Region's 650/750 V DC third-rail or an on-board diesel engine to allow it to operate on non-electrified routes. This makes it very versatile, although the diesel engine produces less power than is available from the third-rail supply so the locomotives are rarely operated outside of the former Southern Region of British Rail.

Following the withdrawal and scrapping of the more powerful Class 74 electro-diesels in 1977, the Class 73 was unique on the British railway network until the introduction of the Class 88 electro-diesels in 2017).

This model features a finely moulded body with etched grills and directional lighting, as well as other details such as finely printed external logos and numbering.

The Class 73 is a unique type of locomotive that can operate from the Southern Region's 650/750 V DC third-rail or its on-board diesel engine, allowing it to run on both electrified and non-electrified routes. Although the diesel engine produces less power than the third-rail supply, the locomotives are rarely operated outside of the former Southern Region of British Rail.

The model is designed for operation on DC or DCC systems and features a coreless motor for smoother running. It has all-wheel pick-up and drive, as well as sprung buffers and a NEM Coupling pocket. The model is supplied with a spares bag containing additional detailing parts.

The specifications of the model include a livery of BR Electric Blue, a Bo-Bo wheel configuration, and a DCC type of DCC Sound Fitted. The model requires a 12V DC track supply and has a pristine finish. The measurements of the model are 213mm in length, 34mm in width, and 49mm in height.
