Manufacturer description

The British Rail Class 73 is a British electro-diesel locomotive. The type is unusual in that it can operate from the Southern Region's 650/750 V DC third-rail or an on-board diesel engine to allow it to operate on non-electrified routes. This makes it very versatile, although the diesel engine produces less power than is available from the third-rail supply so the locomotives are rarely operated outside of the former Southern Region of British Rail.

Following the withdrawal and scrapping of the more powerful Class 74 electro-diesels in 1977, the Class 73 was unique on the British railway network until the introduction of the Class 88 electro-diesels in 2017).

The Dapol Class 73 JA BR Blue Full Yellow Panels 73002 Diesel Locomotive is a model of a British Rail Class 73 electro-diesel locomotive. This class of locomotive is unique in its ability to operate from a third-rail supply or an onboard diesel engine, making it highly versatile. However, it is worth noting that the diesel engine's power output is lower than that of the third-rail supply, and as such, Class 73 locomotives are rarely operated outside of the former Southern Region of British Rail.

This OO gauge model is DCC fitted and features a finely moulded body with etched grills, cast wheels in the appropriate colour, and a range of other details including sprung buffers, directional lighting, and finely printed external logos and numbering. The model also features a coreless motor for smoother operation and includes a spares bag with additional detailing parts.

The model is a representation of a Class 73 locomotive in its BR Blue livery, with the distinctive full yellow panels. It has a wheel configuration of Bo-Bo and is DCC fitted, requiring a 12V DC track supply. The model measures 213mm in length, 34mm in width, and 49mm in height, making it a compact and detailed representation of the real-life locomotive.
