The Dean Goods was the workhorse of the GWR goods department from 1883 until the twilight of the Steam era. The final locomotive was withdrawn in 1957. The class had become the standard locos for the lightly built and winding Welsh lines by their withdrawal.
Serving both at home and abroad during two World Wars, the 0-6-0 Tender loco epitomises locomotive practice under William Dean.
GWR 2533 was the first Dean 0-6-0 to betakenover by the WD and completed in Black with the No101.

The Oxford Rail OO scale model of the GWR Dean Goods War Department No 101 is a detailed representation of a locomotive that played a significant role in the Great Western Railway's goods department from 1883 to 1957. The model is based on the real life locomotive GWR 2533, which was one of the first Dean Goods 0-6-0 tender locomotives to be taken over by the War Department and renumbered as No 101.
The model features a 5-pole skew wound motor and a high definition livery specification, ensuring smooth running and realistic operation. The locomotive has pick-ups on all drive wheels and rear wheels, plus front and rear tender wheel sets, allowing for efficient power transfer. The model also features separately fitted detail components, including a highly detailed cab interior.
The model is DCC sound fitted, with a level of detail and realism that reflects the scale speed operation of the prototype. The minimum radius curve recommended for the model is 438mm, and it is suitable for use on layouts with a second radius curve or better. The model is part of the Oxford Rail product range.
