Prototype Era
Era 4 (1948 to 1956) British Railways Early Crest
The Dean Goods locomotive was designed in 1883 by William Dean and build at the GWR works at Swindon, these locomotives were based on the popular 0-6-0 small tender engine design and were fitted with inside value gear and modified boilers. 260 of these locomotives were produced between 1883 and 1899. 62 locomotives were taken over by the R.O.D (Railway Operating Division) in 1917 and sent over to France, 46 of which returned to Britain in the summer of 1919. 100 of these engines were used in the second world war and by 1957 they were all withdrawn from service.
Only one of these locomotives survived into preservation which is number 2516 and lives happily on display at the Swindon Steam Railway Museum.

Oxford Dean Goods 2409 Early BR DCC Sound is a 4mm scale model of the Great Western Railway 2301 “Dean Goods” 0‑6‑0 tender locomotive. The model represents a locomotive built between 1883 and 1899, carrying the early British Railways crest and the running number 2409.
The model is finished in pristine condition with a black livery and the early emblem. It measures 201 mm in length, has a minimum radius of 438 mm (second radius), and its motor is a 5‑pole skew‑wound unit. The DCC sound system is fitted, with pick‑ups on all drive wheels and on the front and rear tender wheel sets, and NEM couplings are provided. The cab interior is highly detailed and the motor gearing is set to reflect scale‑speed operation.
Additional features include a high‑definition livery specification, separately fitted detail components, and a sound installation. The manufacturer part number is OR76DG002XS. The model is intended for use with British Railways‑era layouts and operates as a steam‑powered locomotive in DCC mode.
