Manufacturer description

The Morris Eight was a small car inspired by the sales popularity of the Ford Model Y. The success of the car enabled Morris to regain its position as Britain's largest motor manufacturer. The Series I ran from 1935-1937, the Series II was slightly restyled and in late 1938 the Series E appeared on which our model is based. This continued in production during the war for the military, essential civilian use and export. Post war general production restarted in 1945 but there were no more tourers made in the UK. In Australia, however, a flourishing body building industry continued to provide tourer versions on imported chassis/mechanicals. The engine went on to be used, with very minor changes, in the Series MM from 1948-1953, they were also adapted as auxiliary power units in Centurion, Conqueror and Chieftain tanks. Morris also used this engine as the basis of special Marine and Stationary power plants. There was a van version of the Series E rated at 5 cwt capacity called the Z Series. It was first produced in 1940 and outlived the saloon, ceasing production in about 1953 when the engine was phased out. Over 120,000 of the Series E version were produced.

Oxford Diecast Ivory/Maroon Morris Eight – 1:76 scale model (manufacturer part number 76ME003) represents the British Railways Early Crest livery. The model is a die‑cast replica of the Morris Eight Series E, the version introduced in late 1938 and produced throughout the Second World War and into the post‑war period.

The Morris Eight was a small saloon car launched in 1935 as a response to the popularity of the Ford Model Y. The original Series I ran from 1935 to 1937, followed by the slightly restyled Series II, and then the Series E which formed the basis of this model. Production continued during the war for military and essential civilian use, as well as for export. After hostilities ceased, general production resumed in 1945, although no further tourers were built in the United Kingdom; Australian coachbuilders continued to produce tourer bodies on imported chassis.

Over 120 000 examples of the Series E were built, including a 5 cwt van version (the Z Series) first produced in 1940 and withdrawn around 1953 when the engine was withdrawn. The same engine, with minor alterations, powered the Morris Series MM (1948‑1953) and was later adapted as auxiliary units for Centurion, Conqueror and Chieftain tanks, as well as for marine and stationary power plants.
