Era 3 (1923 to 1947) The Big Four (LNER, LMS, GWR and SR)

Manufacturer description

6212 Duchess of Kent entered traffic on 21 October 1935, allocated to Camden shed and fitted with a riveted 9-ton LMS tender. Oddly, out of all the Princess Royals built at Crewe, 6212 was the only one to be fitted with a Derby style smokebox door.

But by 1939 this had been removed. Spread across three different allocation periods, 6212 Duchess of Kent spent the majority of its service life running out of Crewe North and was finally withdrawn from service while at this shed at the beginning of October 1961.

Hornby LMS Princess Royal Class 4‑6‑2 locomotive, model number R3854, represents LMS engine number 6212 “Duchess of Kent”. It is a 7‑inch scale OO gauge model finished in maroon livery, with a 5‑pole skew‑wound motor and powered via driving and tender wheels. The model includes a DCC‑ready 8‑pin socket, NEM/tension‑lock couplings and a minimum curve radius of the second radius (438 mm). The locomotive has a painted finish and a 300 mm length, and the tender is a riveted 9‑ton LMS type.

The prototype entered traffic on 21 October 1935, allocated to Camden shed and fitted with a Derby‑style smokebox door, which was removed by 1939. Throughout its career the engine was mainly based at Crewe North, before being withdrawn at that shed in early October 1961. The model reflects the "Big Four" era (LNER, LMS, GWR and SR) and is part of Hornby’s Era 3 range.
