Class 17 BR Green D8502 with Small Yellow Panels Diesel Locomotive
The Heljan Class 17 Clayton BR Blue (Full Yellow Ends) Locomotive No.8538 is a model of a British Rail Class 17 diesel locomotive built by Clayton/Beyer Peacock between 1962 and 1965. A total of 117 examples of this class were produced for use on light goods and passenger services. The model features an 8-pin DCC socket, allowing for digital command control functionality, and comes with a weathered finish in British Rail Blue livery.
The model is a replica of the Clayton Type 1 diesel locomotive, which was introduced to address issues with visibility for locomotive crews on early Type 1 diesels. However, the twin-engined design proved to be unreliable, resulting in the class being withdrawn from service after less than a decade.
Key features of the model include working lights, NEM couplings, and sprung buffers. The model is capable of operating on a minimum radius curve of 1 and has all wheels suitable for power pickup. It has a length of 203mm and is designed to represent the British Rail Blue period prior to the introduction of the TOPS system.
