Manufacturer description

Containers and the special wooden decked conflat wagons used to convey them were produced in great numbers by all four of the railway companies. They allowed door to door deliveries via road, rail and road again without the requirement for the goods to be handled at each leg.

In the main they were used for furniture removal, although some were modified to be used with ice as refrigerated containers. Post nationalisation BR built over 20,000 conflat wagons and these continued into service until the arrival of the modern standard ISO containers in the 1960s.

The Dapol Conflat & Container Bolingbroke model is a representation of a British Railways wagon used to transport containers. The model measures 82mm in length, 33mm in width, and 48mm in height. It features a 4-wheel wheel arrangement and a minimum curve radius of 1.

The model is built to represent a wagon built by British Railways at Swindon Works, with a livery of LNER grey and a pristine finish. The model comes with separate containers and features highly detailed body and chassis moulding. It also includes profiled wheels, NEM pockets with self-centring couplings, and superbly printed livery and details.

The prototype conflat wagons were used for door-to-door deliveries, primarily for furniture removal, and were built in large numbers by railway companies before nationalisation. British Railways continued to build these wagons, producing over 20,000, which remained in service until the introduction of modern ISO containers in the 1960s.
