Sixteen Class 121 single-car, double-ended driving motor vehicles were built from 1960, numbered 55020–55035. These were supplemented by ten single-ended trailer vehicles, numbered 56280–56289 (later renumbered 54280–54289). They have a top speed of 70 mph, with slam-doors, and vacuum brakes. The driving motor vehicles were nicknamed "Bubble cars".

Dapol Class 121 Chiltern Green SYP 121034 is an OO‑gauge model of a British Railways Class 121 single‑car driving motor vehicle, painted in the Chiltern Railways livery. The model is DCC ready, featuring a 21‑pin socket, and is supplied with a tungsten chassis, all‑wheel power pickup and cast wheels with fine relief and appropriate colouring.

The kit replicates the original vehicles built between 1960 and 1961, which were numbered 55020–55035 and nicknamed “bubble cars”. It includes a finely moulded body with separate detail parts, accurately applied livery, NEM coupling pockets, independently controllable directional lighting, and Dapol’s 5‑pole skew‑wound Mega creep motor for smooth operation and fine speed control. An accessory bag containing spares and optional details is also provided.
