Prototype Era
Era 8 (1983 to 1994) British Rail Sectorisation
The class 121 and 122 (also known as "Bubble Cars") formed part of the first generation of British DMU's. These units were designed to run on branch lines and secondary routes and were ideal for stations that were not able to have run-round loops due to space. The class 121 units were built in 1960 by Pressed Steel and the class 122 were built in 1958 by Gloucester RC&W. Lots of these units are still in preservation.

Dapol Class 121 Bubble Car Midline Diesel Locomotive No 55033 is a model kit of a British Rail DMU built to a 1:87 scale. The model is DCC ready, finished in pristine condition and carries the running number 55032. It is presented in the non‑standard BR livery used by Regional Railways and is able to negotiate a minimum radius of curve 2. Power is collected from all wheels and the unit is fitted with NEM coupling pockets with tension lock.
The prototype Class 121 was constructed by the Pressed Steel Company in 1960, with a total of 16 units produced for British Rail Regional Railways. The model represents the British Rail sectorisation era and is supplied with a tungsten chassis, cast wheels in the appropriate colour and a five‑pole skew wound motor for smooth operation. It includes directional lighting, an accessory bag with additional detail parts and spares, and an all‑wheel drive system.
Key specifications are: wheel configuration Bo‑Bo, track supply 12 V DC, era 8 (1983‑1994) and a midline livery associated with the Birmingham/West Midlands region. Physical dimensions are 267 mm in length over buffer, 34 mm in width and 49 mm in height. The model bears the manufacturer part number 4D‑009‑008.
