Manufacturer description

On 22nd March 1991, another pair of Class 60s was made ready for collection, including 60051, which carried Petroleum sector decals. The locomotive was named after the Scottish scientist “Mary Somerville.”
Initially based at Cardiff Canton Depot in South Wales, 60051 was unusual in that it kept its Petroleum sector markings right through the shadow franchise period. It was later painted directly into the second variation of EWS livery in 1997.
An early casualty, 60051 was stored at Toton in April 2010, where it remains to this day.

Accurascale has released a model of the Class 60 diesel locomotive, specifically the Railfreight Petroleum Sector variant, number 60051 'Mary Sommerville'. The locomotive was built by Brush and represents the final British-designed and built diesel electric locomotive.

The Class 60 was a heavy freight locomotive that worked on various trains for the Coal, Petroleum, Aggregate and Metals sectors before passing into the ownership of EWS in 1996. The locomotive has seen a resurgence in use in recent years, with operators such as DCR and GBRF utilising their fleets for heavy haulage.

Accurascale's model of the Class 60 has been developed using data from 3D scans, surveys and original drawings, giving it a high level of accuracy. The model features a 5-pole motor and all-wheel drive, allowing it to haul heavy loads. It also includes a complex lighting suite and an Accurathrash speaker.

Key features of the model include a die-cast metal chassis, RP25-110 profile OO wheels, and separately applied etched metal and plastic detail parts. The model is DCC-ready and features a PowerPack capacitor for uninterrupted power. It also includes a Hall sensor for a flange squeal effect on DCC sound-fitted models.

The model is available in a variety of configurations, including DCC sound-fitted options. It is designed to operate on a minimum radius of 438mm and features a range of lighting options, including directional lighting, switchable red and white marker lights, and separately switched cab lighting.
