Oxford Warwell A Ministry Of War Transport MS1 is a model representing a 50‑tonne bogie wagon built for the Ministry of War Transport. The vehicle was introduced in 1942 for the movement of Sherman tanks and remained in service after the Second World War.
The model is painted in the War Department livery and carries the manufacturer part number OR76WW001. It depicts the period known as the “Big Four”, referring to the main pre‑nationalisation railway companies: LNER, LMS, GWR and SR.
This version reproduces the original design, featuring a wooden deck with limited securing points, diamond‑shaped bogies and chains for load restraint. It is intended to illustrate the wagon’s role in transporting important loads, initially Sherman tanks, from western ports to armouries and training grounds on the south coast.
