The Oxford Rail 6 wheel 'Toad' is based on Diagram AA1 6 wheel version

500 of this, the four wheel variant, Diagram AA3 were built between 1889 - 1901.

The Oxford Rail model will show variations between the time that these vehicles were built and later when part of the wood planking had been replaced with steel sheets. (Hence later models are described as plated).

The Oxford Rail OO gauge model of the BR Toad Brake Van, numbered 35717, is a representation of a standard British Railways freight vehicle. The model is painted in a BR grey livery and is finished to a pristine standard. The vehicle has a length of 107mm and is designed to be used on OO gauge model railway layouts.

The real-life Toad Brake Van was a type of freight wagon introduced by the Great Western Railway in 1894. It became a distinctive feature of the railway network and was used for many years under various liveries, including GWR Grey and Departmental Yellow. The vans were often marked with the name of the town they needed to return to, and featured a large guard compartment and veranda.

The Toad Brake Van was a key part of the railway network, allowing shunters and guards to ride on the outside of the vehicle during shunting and journeying. The model is part of the Oxford Rail product range and is designed for use on model railway layouts depicting the British Railways Early Crest period.
