The Oxford Rail 6 wheel 'Toad' is based on Diagram AA1 6 wheel version

500 of this, the four wheel variant, Diagram AA3 were built between 1889 - 1901.

The Oxford Rail model will show variations between the time that these vehicles were built and later when part of the wood planking had been replaced with steel sheets. (Hence later models are described as plated).

Oxford Rail's OO gauge model of the BR 6 Wheel Plated Toad Brake Van is a representation of a vehicle that was introduced by the Great Western Railway in 1894. The original Toad Brake Van was an iconic piece of freight travel, with its unique nickname deriving from the GWR's telegraphic code for a brake van.

The model is painted in British Railways grey livery, a finish described as pristine. The vehicle's gauge is OO and it is operated by British Railways. The period represented by this model is that of the British Railways Early Crest era.

The original Toad Brake Vans featured a distinctive design, with a large guard compartment spanning three quarters of the length of the chassis and a veranda covering the remaining quarter. This design allowed the shunter or guard to ride on the outside during shunting and journeys.

The model measures 107mm in length and features a grey finish, in keeping with the BR grey livery.
