Era 6 (1967 to 1972) British Rail Blue (Pre-TOPS)
The 1955 British Railways modernisation plan recognised the fact that the UK rail system required a new high capacity tanker wagon to cater for the growing demand of petroleum products. Working with the Charles Roberts Railway Wagon Works and the Esso Petrol company a modern design capable of higher speeds was developed.
Subsequently a large number of users operated the same vehicles - with their use lasting into the 1990's on commercial traffic and longer in engineers use.

Oxford Class B Tank – Esso Black Original Suspension, running number 3300, is a replica of a British Railways Class B tanker wagon. The model carries the manufacturer part number OR76TKB001 and represents the British Railways Late Crest period.
The original wagons were introduced following the 1955 British Railways modernisation plan, which identified a need for high‑capacity tankers to convey petroleum products. In partnership with Charles Roberts Railway Wagon Works and the Esso petroleum company, a design capable of higher speeds was produced. Large numbers of the wagons entered service and remained in commercial use into the 1990s, with some later retained for engineering duties.
Key features of the model include NEM couplings, original suspension components and detailed exterior finish in the Esso black livery.
