It carries the running number 1203/1910, bears a blue livery and is finished in pristine condition. The model is DCC ready with a 4‑pin socket, uses a 5‑pole skew‑wound motor and has a minimum curve radius of 371 mm (first radius). Power is collected via all wheels and it couples using NEM or tension‑lock devices. The manufacturer part number is R3870.
The prototype was built by Peckett & Sons in 1910 for Deep Duffryn Colliery, Mountain Ash, South Wales. The colliery, opened in 1850, remained operational until 1 February 1971 and was at the time owned by Nixon’s Navigation Coal Co. Ltd., employing over 1 200 workers. The locomotive was introduced into service in 1910 and represents the British Rail Blue (pre‑TOPS) period. Hornby’s version was produced in 1953 and bears the name “The Earl”.
