Prototype Era
Era 8 (1983 to 1994) British Rail Sectorisation
A total of 31 Class 91s were built between 1988 and 1991 for high-speed express passenger train haulage as part of the East Coast electrification programme of the late 1980s. Also known as InterCity 225s in anticipation of their service speed of 225km/h (140mph), they were also referred to as âElectrasâ by BR during their development phase.Â
No. 91018 was built at BREL Crewe and entered service in 1990. It received the name âRobert Louis Stevensonâ in November 1993, and this was changed to âBradford Film Festivalâ in February 2000. It was modified to Class 91/1 in 2002 and renumbered 91118, and remained in service until withdrawn by LNER in May 2020, before going into storage. It was scrapped by February 2023.Â
This RailRoad model locomotive is a faithful representation of the BR Intercity Class 91 'Robert Louis Stevenson', with a more durable construction that makes it perfect for beginner modellers.

Hornby RailRoad presents a model of the British Rail Intercity Class 91 locomotive previously named âRobert Louis Stevensonâ, catalogued under part number R30527. The model depicts a locomotive from the British Rail sectorisation era, representing the highâspeed Class 91 fleet built between 1988 and 1991 for the East Coast electrification programme.
The real locomotive 91018 was constructed at BREL Crewe and entered service in 1990. It carried the name âRobert Louis Stevensonâ from November 1993, was renamed âBradford Film Festivalâ in February 2000, and was converted to a Class 91/1 as 91118 in 2002. It remained in operation with LNER until its withdrawal in May 2020, after which it was stored and subsequently scrapped by February 2023.
The Hornby RailRoad model offers a faithful replica of the original locomotive with a robust construction that makes it suitable for novice modellers. It is designed for ease of handling and durability, reflecting the appearance of the Intercity Class 91 as it operated during the sectorisation period.
