Prototype Era
Era 8 (1983 to 1994) British Rail Sectorisation
A total of 31 Class 91s were built between 1988 and 1991 for high-speed express passenger train haulage as part of the East Coast electrification programme of the late 1980s.
Known as InterCity 225s in anticipation of their service speed of 225km/h (140mph), they were also referred to as ‘Electras’ by BR during their development phase. No.91018 was built at BREL Crewe and entered service in 1990. It received the name ‘Robert Louis Stevenson’ in November 1993, and this was changed to ‘Bradford Film Festival’ in February 2000.
It was modified to Class 91/1 in 2002 and renumbered 91118, and remained in service until withdrawn by LNER in May 2020, before going into storage. It was scrapped by February 2023.
Bringing RailRoad detail and durability to the iconic design, this OO gauge model locomotive also features pre-fitted sound.

Hornby RailRoad presents an OO gauge model of the British Rail Intercity Class 91 locomotive named ‘Robert Louis Stevenson’ (road number 91018), fitted with DCC sound. The model carries the manufacturer part number R30527TXS and represents the British Rail sectorisation era.
The prototype Class 91 fleet comprised 31 units built between 1988 and 1991 for high‑speed express passenger services on the East Coast electrification programme. Known as InterCity 225s for their design speed of 225 km/h (140 mph) and nicknamed ‘Electras’ during development, No. 91018 was constructed at BREL Crewe and entered service in 1990. It received the name ‘Robert Louis Stevenson’ in November 1993, was renamed ‘Bradford Film Festival’ in February 2000, and was modified to Class 91/1 and renumbered 91118 in 2002. The locomotive remained in operation with LNER until its withdrawal in May 2020, entered storage thereafter and was scrapped by February 2023.
The Hornby model replicates the distinctive design of the Class 91 with attention to detail and robust construction, and it includes pre‑installed sound functionality for realistic operation.
