Prototype Era
Era 9 (1995 to 2004) Initial Privatisation
This model locomotive is based on one that was Introduced in September 1991 as part of BR’s InterCity fleet. Originally numbered 91024, it was part of the Adtranz rebuild between 2000 and 2003.
It was renumbered 91124 and given the name ‘Reverand W Awdry’.
Following the privatisation of BR in 1996/7, the East Coast fleet was operated by GNER and adopted a new livery of blue and red, which was carried until 2007 when the franchise was lost. Since then, the franchise has passed through various operators, most recently LNER.
With the introduction of new ‘Azuma’ trains, the Class 91 fleet was gradually stood down and put into store.
Our OO gauge model locomotive replicates the GNER years, with the bold blue livery and NEM couplings for easy coach attachment. It is DCC ready with a 21-pin socket allowing you to upgrade to digital control.
* Class names often change over the lifespan of a locomotive, so this is not necessarily the class name used by the operator in the period modelled.

The Hornby GNER Class 91 model, numbered 91124 'Reverend W Awdry', is part of the 2025 Range catalogue. This OO gauge model is DCC ready, featuring a 21 pin socket and a 5 Pole Skew wound motor.
The model represents the Class 91 locomotive, which was introduced in September 1991 as part of British Rail's InterCity fleet, initially numbered 91024. Between 2000 and 2003, the locomotive was rebuilt by Adtranz and renumbered 91124, being named 'Reverend W Awdry' at this time.
Following the privatisation of British Rail in 1996/7, the East Coast franchise was operated by GNER, adopting a new blue and red livery. This livery was used until 2007, when the franchise was lost to other operators. The franchise has since changed hands, with LNER being the most recent operator. With the introduction of the new 'Azuma' trains, the Class 91 fleet, including 91124, has been gradually phased out and placed into store.
